In 2006 I weighed over 250 pounds. I woke one morning and realized that I could no longer live like I was. I have a special needs child that will need a healthy mom realized in a sudden moment that I had to be healthy because he would need me to care for him long into adulthood. It is hard to look back at that time and even harder to face the pictures. I put a recent picture of me next to the old me – I am so happy today and was so unhappy then. I started my journey in January of 2007. It was a slow process, learning how to live and be healthy. I took up running after losing the first 50 pounds. I remember that first attempt. I could barely walk to the end of the block. I slowly became a marathon runner, running my very first marathon in October 2007. I kept up the running. In fact, all I did was run, and run, and run some more. I was running an average of 35-60 miles per week. I still felt unhealthy. I was near my ideal weight finally. However, I was not feeling strong and fit. In July of 2013 I joined a gym that Londa and Jon taught at. I started doing group training and found my muscles. I started building strength and started feeling better and stronger. I eased way back on the running. I feel better and am more fit than I have ever been in my entire life. I have gone from a size 22-24 to a size 2. I am still running and my running has improved. I have cut my running down to 15-25 miles per week tops, my pace is over a minute 30 seconds faster than it was a year ago. Everything I do is more efficient, stronger, better. The best part about getting fit and meeting the goals has been the incredible community and support I have found these last 9 months. It is more than just a workout.
